What does the Local Advisory Board do?
The board of trustees of The Cam Academy Trust delegate certain responsibilities for our school to a Local Advisory Board (LAB) in line with the Trust's Scheme of Delegation.
The LAB supports both Thongsley Fields & St. Peter's School and is made up of people who want to make a positive contribution to children’s education.
LAB members (also known as governors) are one of the largest volunteer forces in the country and have an important part to play in raising school standards. Their role is broad and absolutely key to the effectiveness of a school. LAB members support the strategic leadership and accountability of schools; help appoint the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher; and also hold responsibilities for monitoring the use of the school's finances.
Each member forms part of the Local Advisory Board as a whole and as such, may not act independently of the rest of the members: decisions are the joint responsibility of the LAB.
The role of the LAB is a strategic one and its key functions are to:
- help set the aims and objectives for the school
- help set the policies for achieving those aims and objectives
- support the development of targets for academic achievement
- monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making
- be a source of challenge and support to the headteacher (a critical friend).
The LAB both challenges and supports the Headteacher to improve pupils' progress and to ensure the ethos and values of the school continue to align with those of the Trust.
The Local Advisory Board can be contacted via the school office or by emailing Lorraine Barr, Clerk to the LAB, directly:
