This term, our topic is all about me and my family. We will be learning new vocabulary and encouraging the children to enjoy an increasing range of books and ensure that they recognise that information can be retrieved from books. We will be looking at stories such as Rat-a-tat-tat, Incredible You and The Colour Monster. These will help us learn each others names, identify what we like about ourselves, understand our emotions and how to regulate ourselves.

During our Read, Write, Inc. sessions (our school phonics scheme) the children will begin to learn their initial sounds. We will focus heavily on learning how to blend and segment words orally. We will send some work home to help embed these new skills so please check the book bags.

Children will be exploring our texts through Drawing Club, focusing on beginning to form our letters and beginning to write simple words. We will take this time to develop our pencil grips while exploring how to make different shapes our draw our ideas. This is an essential first step when becoming writers.

We will introduce the children to Mastering Number to support our maths sessions. We will begin to explore numbers up to five. We will be exploring counting through rhymes and songs. Looking at how to order numbers, developing our understanding of how to represent numbers and begin to compare numbers.

We will continue to share updates and messages with you on Tapestry, so please make sure you are signed up. We would also love to share what your child does at home, so if there is something that they do which you (or they) are proud of, please do add an observation (you can add photos and videos too!) so that we can see what they have been up to.
