This term in Reception, we will be learning about ourselves and our little fury friends we may have at home. Our topic is called Me, Myself and My Pets. Every week, we will be looking at different stories. We will be reading, The Colour Monster, Incredible You and Dogs. We will be learning about our different emotions, how we can manage them and learning how other people might be feeling.

In reading and writing, the children will be learning to read and write sounds. They will be practising on forming letters using our precursive handwriting style. The children will be joining in with fine motor activities and dough disco sessions to build on their finger strength, which will allow them to hold a pencil correctly. Once they are comfortable with writing sounds, they will then learn to read by blending and segmenting sounds into words. In Read Write Inc, the children will get to know the routines of our phonic sessions and will meet Fred who is our Read Write Inc mascot.
In maths, we will be learning in depth, numbers up to 5 and going up to 10. We will be learning to subitise, order and count to 10. We are following the Mastery Number scheme from NCETM which focuses on having a deep understanding of each number. For example, what two numbers make another number?

Our P.E. sessions will be on a Monday and Forest School will be on a Tuesday. Please make sure your child comes in P.E kit uniform on Monday and the appropriate Forest school uniform for Tuesday. It will also be helpful to have a spare change of clothes for your child for messy play or if they have an accident.

Please make sure you are signed up to Tapestry for challenges and updates for Ash class.
