4-5 year olds

This term, we will be looking at traditional tales. We will be learning new vocabulary and encouraging the children to enjoy an increasing range of books and ensure that they recognise that information can be retrieved from books. We will be looking at traditional tales and adaptations, such as The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Book by Lucy Rowland, The Pea and the Princess by Mini Grey.
During our Read, Write, Inc. sessions (our school phonics scheme) the children will now be able to blend and segment words which will support them with reading captions and sentences. We will be carrying on with reading and recognising tricky words in sentences. Here is a link for the tricky words we will be reading: Tricky words.
Children will be exploring our texts through Drawing Club, focusing on beginning to write simple captions and sentences. We will be developing our handwriting skills, following pre-cursive letter formation.
We will continue to follow Mastering Number to support our maths sessions. We will continue to consolidate previous learning such as subitising as well as count objects to 10, and beyond, recognising patterns within numbers and identify missing numbers in a sequence.
We will continue to share updates and messages with you on Tapestry, so please make sure you are signed up. We would also love to share what your child does at home, so if there is something that they do which you (or they) are proud of, please do add an observation (you can add photos and videos too!) so that we can see what they have been up to.
